How Can AI Help Us Think Critically?
How can AI aid us in every step of our critical thinking process?
Artificial intelligence can help us evaluate evidence. Finding the right evidence can be very difficult and time-consuming. AI can process enormous amounts of data, and point out the most important evidence for us. A well-trained AI, schooled in common sense thinking, can find evidence that supports the theory, and evidence that refutes the theory; and also – based on evidence – suggest revisions of the theory.
Artificial intelligence can help us evaluate contexts. What’s true in one context might be false in another context. For example: in one context a stone is considered a solid object, but in an atomic context it mostly contains empty space. AI can be trained to use machine learning (learn from data, identify patterns and make decisions) to understand what’s true in different contexts.
Artificial intelligence can help us evaluate methods. Scientific methods are often built on hypotheses, and hence less or more appropriate. AI can process enormous amounts of data very fast, and figure out how to change and improve the methods.
Artificial intelligence can help us evaluate conceptualizations. A concept is a word or image we use when we refer to an idea or groups of ideas. AI can help us analyze how coherent the key ideas are conceptualized. AI can also help us conceptualize our ideas coherently.
Artificial intelligence can help us evaluate biases. Bias is an error in judgment that happens when we allow our prejudices or personal interests to affect our analysis. An AI schooled in common sense thinking, that has been fed with a lot of data, can help us find biases.
• The Artificial intelligence may very well be biased
• Who has trained the AI? And why?
• All artificial intelligence is based on human thinking and human knowledge. And we all know that human knowledge has its flaws.
Are there more risks?
